2027 Jeep Wrangler JL-2A Brings CJ-2A Heritage To The Modern Rubicon

More than 80 years after the Willys CJ-2A brought the Jeep name to civilian life, Jeep is revisiting that milestone with the 2027 Jeep Wrangler JL-2A. The special edition is the 11th entry in the brand’s Twelve 4 Twelve series and combines the current Wrangler Rubicon’s capability with design details inspired by the original civilian Jeep.

A Modern Tribute To The Original Civilian Jeep

Introduced in July 1945, the Willys CJ-2A was the first Jeep vehicle specifically designed for civilian use. It adapted the battle-proven Willys MB for farms, ranches and industrial applications, adding features such as a tailgate, rear power takeoff and larger headlights. Its seven-slot grille and distinctive postwar color combinations also became part of Jeep’s visual heritage.

The Wrangler JL-2A uses that history as its design reference. It gets exclusive 17-inch wheels painted in Joose, inspired by the Sunset Red wheels offered on the CJ-2A, along with orange tow hooks. The special edition is available in Gobi on two-door models and ’41 on four-door models, while Bright White, Sting Gray, Ghost and Joose are also offered.

Rubicon Hardware Meets Retro Styling

Underneath the heritage-inspired styling, the JL-2A is based on the Wrangler Rubicon and comes with 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires. Body-color fender flares, a three-piece hardtop and Dark Metallic Grey grille accents complete the exterior treatment.

Inside, the JL-2A gets a Wrangler-first combination of Nappa Heritage Tan and Bison Brown materials with Desert Orange stitching. Jeep also adds a Willys-Overland satin-chrome shifter medallion, heritage-inspired HVAC vent graphics and a rear swing-gate plaque based on the original CJ-2A dashboard data plate.

Standard equipment includes the Convenience Group, with remote start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and universal garage-door opener, along with a front TrailCam with an integrated washer.

2027 Wrangler JL-2A Pricing And Availability

The 2027 Jeep Wrangler JL-2A will open for orders in October. The special-edition package carries an MSRP of $4,995, which Jeep says is just $115 more than a similarly equipped Wrangler Rubicon.
