Nissan Revives The Pixo As A Small Electric City Car

All the Nissan Pixo fans in Europe are in for a treat as the Japanese automaker has brought back the ‘Pixo’ nameplate in the form of a small electric hatchback specifically developed for city driving. The new Pixo will become Nissan's smallest European EV when deliveries begin in early 2027, slotting below the Micra.

At 149.4 inches long and 70.5 inches wide, the Pixo has a 32.5-foot turning circle. It seats four, while sliding rear seats let owners trade rear legroom for cargo space. Nissan quotes 12.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the seats in place and 43.1 cubic feet with them folded.

Nissan’s Smallest EV Gets An LFP Battery Pack

The Pixo gets a 60 kW electric motor driving the front wheels and a 27.5 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack. Nissan has stated that the electric hatchback has a WLTP range of up to 161 miles.

The battery chemistry is notable because the Pixo is Nissan's first European model to use LFP cells. The relatively small battery also fits the car's urban focus rather than chasing the increasingly large battery packs found in many newer EVs.

Charging is another part of the Pixo's city-car proposition. A 50 kW DC fast charger is standard, taking the battery from 15 to 80 percent in approximately 28 minutes. An 11 kW bidirectional AC charger is also standard.

To Be Built By Renault In Slovenia

Although Nissan has designed the Pixo, Renault will manufacture it at its Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia. That’s because it allows both the companies to share development and manufacturing resources while giving Nissan its own will at the Pixo’s exterior and interior design.

The cabin gets a 7-inch digital instrument display and a 10-inch central touchscreen unit with Google built-in. Google's Gemini assistant can be used for navigation, communication and entertainment through natural-language interaction.

Nissan is also adding Face ID driver recognition, which can load personalized settings, along with connected services through the MyNissan app. The Pixo's driver-assistance equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and hands-free parking.

Nissan Is Bringing Back An Old Name

The Pixo name isn't new to Nissan. The original car was sold in Europe from 2009 to 2013 and was closely related to the Suzuki Alto. The new Pixo has no direct mechanical connection to that earlier city car. Instead, Nissan is reusing the name for a new generation of a small car built around electric power.

Nissan will reveal pricing, market-specific specifications and pre-order details from December 2026. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in early 2027.

The Pixo is an interesting look at how differently the same automaker can approach electrification in different markets. Nissan has not announced a U.S. launch for the electric hatchback, but the car offers a useful contrast to the larger EVs and electrified vehicles being developed for American buyers.
