Lucid Air owners can now use Android Auto after the automaker began rolling out the feature through its latest over-the-air software update. The update, Lucid OS version 2.7.0, brings Android phone projection to the Air sedan and gives owners the option of using the system with or without a cable, depending on their phone.

The rollout addresses a long-running omission in one of the market’s most technology-focused electric sedans. Android Auto lets drivers access compatible phone apps through the vehicle interface, including navigation, media, messaging, and other connected services. For Android users, that makes the update a meaningful everyday convenience upgrade rather than a minor software addition.

Compatibility Depends On The Android Phone

Lucid says Android Auto is available in wired and wireless forms. Phones running Android 9.0 or newer can connect through a USB cable. Phones running Android 11 or newer can connect wirelessly using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Owners also need an active data plan on the phone for Android Auto to operate.

Drivers who do not see the feature immediately should confirm that the car is running Lucid OS 2.7.0. Because the update is delivered over the air, eligible Air sedans should be able to receive the software without a dealership visit once the rollout reaches the vehicle.

The Air’s lack of Android Auto stood out because Lucid positions the sedan as a premium EV with advanced software and a wide 34-inch Glass Cockpit display. Many mainstream vehicles already offer phone projection, so the missing feature was especially noticeable in a luxury electric sedan.

The delay was tied partly to the complexity of Google’s certification process and the data requirements involved in integration, according to Lucid personnel cited in the original reporting. Lucid Gravity Is Expected To Follow

For now, the Android Auto rollout applies to the Lucid Air. Lucid has indicated that the Gravity SUV will receive Android Auto as well, though the Air is getting the feature first. The Gravity update will be worth watching as Lucid expands its lineup and works to make its software experience more consistent across vehicles.
